German reference language: why "stets zu unserer vollen Zufriedenheit" is not just friendly
German employer references must be benevolent AND truthful — which is why a coded language evolved in which seemingly friendly phrases carry hidden ratings. "Stets zur vollsten Zufriedenheit" equals a top grade, "zur Zufriedenheit" only a 4.
What is missing matters just as much: if the closing gratitude-and-regret formula is absent or core responsibilities are not mentioned at all, that is often a deliberate signal to the next employer.

Which grade is a good German reference?
Grade 1 ("stets zur vollsten Zufriedenheit") and grade 2 ("stets zur vollen Zufriedenheit") count as good to very good. From grade 3 on it is worth requesting a correction — many employers improve the wording when asked.
