What is an ATS — and what does it really do?
An ATS (applicant tracking system) is the software companies use to manage applications — in Germany, for example, Personio, Greenhouse, Lever or SmartRecruiters. When you apply via a career portal, this software reads your resume first.
The myth of the 'robot that rejects 75% of all applications' comes from the US and does not hold for Germany: the systems common in the German market do not auto-reject — they make your documents searchable and transfer them into a candidate profile. A human makes the decision.
The real risk is quieter: parsing loss. Two-column designs, icon fonts, contact details in the page header or scanned PDFs break the machine reading — and the recruiter's profile shows garbage or simply nothing. That is exactly what the resume check makes visible: what gets through and what is lost.

Does an ATS automatically reject my application?
In Germany, as a rule: no. The common systems parse your documents into a profile and make them searchable — a human makes the selection. The real risk is information getting lost during machine reading, so your profile arrives incomplete.
Is my resume stored?
No. The file is analysed in memory only and discarded afterwards. Without an account, only the result is kept for 24 hours and then deleted; with an account, the report stays until you delete it or your account.
What exactly does the resume check test?
Two layers: first, deterministic rules — text layer, column layout, header contacts, standard headings, date formats, icon fonts, length, file name. Second, an AI analysis that compares your original with the machine-extracted text and shows concretely which information is lost during parsing.
